THE BEINGS OF THE MOUNTAIN RANGE
The night without moon, profoundly dark, gave the sensation of gobbling down everything moving forward for its space. That was what Mr. and Mrs. Tollozi perceived while they were travelling through the road in the way to Camegasta, a little South American village at the foot of the Andes mountain range.
-–Don`t you think that it is strange not having crossed any vehicle from almost an hour? —Mrs. Tollozi asked, a little worried, to her husband.
—Yes, it is true... This is not a normal situation.
Immediately, the vehicle started to buck and lean as if it were possessed by something. The fright paralyzed the couple, who did not understand what was happening, until Mr. Tollozi realized, as if it were a revelation, that it was a big scale seismic movement.
They tried to get out of the car and, in their effort to escape, which was complicated by the violent shakes of the quake, Mrs. Tollozi noticed with horror and barely illuminated by the headlamps of the vehicle, that a big crevice was coming fast towards them through the road surface.
Facing the imminent danger and so as not to take the risk of being separated by the natural ditch, because it was not known how deep and wide it could be, they decided to escape through the right side of the vehicle. As soon as they went out of it, it was swallowed by the huge newly-made crevice.
The tremor ceased, leaving some intermittent aftershocks in the profound and cold darkness of the night.
—And, what do we do now? — Mrs. Tollozi said desperately and sobbing.
—I am going to ask for help — her husband said, while he was taking his cell phone out of his jacket pocket.
Insistently, Mr. Tollozi tried to communicate with someone... but all his attempts were in vain.
—It cannot be, there is not signal! —he exclaimed, with worry.
While they were thinking what destination to take, since the nearest village was about fifteen kilometres; Mrs. Tollozi could see -at about three hundred metres from the place where they were- some luminosities moving slowly...
—What is that... in the direction of the mountain range? — the woman asked uneasily.
—Where? — Mr. Tollozi asked curiously.
—Towards the Northwest. Can you see it?
—Yes! It seems to be people with flashlights. — Mr. Tollozi said hopeful.
—Let`s go! I am sure that they will give us shelter, since the night is colder and colder... and if they have a vehicle, maybe, they could help us to arrive at the town! — the wife exclaimed with excitement.
—Ok but let`s go very carefully. There could be more crevices. — the husband warned.
Barely illuminating each step that they gave with the cell phone; both went — slowly but with great anxiety— towards those strange lights. Every so often, the land shook with minor tremors, which added one more fee of hostility to the difficult situation that this couple was living.
The stars, that seemed to be the only guardians of these defenceless humans, were covered up quickly and pitiless by a thick and dark layer of clouds with intermittent lightings bolts. The Tollozis tried to step up the pace as the uneven and stony land allows them.
Suddenly, Mrs. Tollozi noticed that the lights had disappeared...
—Where are they? What happened? — the woman gasped.
—Calm down, darling! They might have turned off the lights to save energy. We should continue in the same direction until we find them. — The man answered showing security to his wife.
Thunders began to be noticed, which gave a more apocalyptical tone to the scene. Both were walking ahead very exhausted through the stony land, when at about one hundred metres from them, a deafening snap together with a strong light expanded through the air.
That first flash was followed by six more; then, sporadic sparks emerged from land to heaven showing this event in an environment without rain, leaving a terrible and suffocating sulphur smell. That strange phenomenon -generally occurred during a quake- was possible due to triboluminescence (when rocks behave as conductives of electrical charge, which reacts with tectonic tensions producing the appearance of strong magnetic fields that ionize the air, causing plasmic shapes that burst towards the atmosphere).
The couple, anxious for finding someone who gives them shelter —especially due to the fearsome sparks that seemed to have life of its own— continued walking and so, they came to a small valley... And they could not believe what they were seeing! There were dozens, or maybe almost a hundred of some luminescent and humanoid-looking beings that go into and out through a crevice or cavern situated in one of the walls of the same valley.
—Oh, my god! What are they? — exclaimed the woman, about to faint because of the shock and the impression caused by that vision.
Mr. Tollozi was so traumatized that he could not say a word; he simply observed something that seemed to be taken from a science fiction story.
Maybe for the panic that they transmitted or, perhaps for their intense staring eyes, the couple was intercepted by those strange beings. Right after and, as a defensive manoeuvre of
these beings, each of them incorporated themselves in one humanoid -looking much more powerful and luminous.
An hour later...
Mr. Tollozi felt that he was awaking from a deep sleep. When half opening his eyes, he saw that everything was complete darkness and that he was laid down over a cold, dark and irregular surface. Slowly, he saw how something was illuminating the enclosed area and, through this light, he could see on his right -at about a metre and a half- that his wife was on the floor of what seemed to be a cave.
As soon as he saw her, he started to get close to her with difficulty, and to call her:
—Darling, Darling! Are you ok? — he told her, while moving her to wake her up.
The woman slowly began to regain consciousness and the movement of her rigid and contorted limbs -due to the low temperature.
—Oh! What a cold here! I am frozen! — the wife said shivering.
The dim glow illuminating the cave suddenly increased its brightness, and the cold enclosed area became warm and pleasant. When the couple turned the gaze to that source of energy, they realized that it was not any other than that strange “being” they had seen in the valley but, unlike that time, they were not as fearful as they had been during that first impression.
When seeing the “being” up close, they observed that this form of life had not got eyes or mouth. It was everything luminosity and it could be perceived that he had an authentic sense of knowledge and wisdom. The Tollozis had many questions as regards this fantastic looking being...
Suddenly, Mrs. Tollozi could not hide her surprise and she exclaimed:
—Oh, my God! This is really incredible!
—I cannot believe it! — Mr. Tollozi shared the same emotion with his wife.
It happened that, as soon as any question was generated in the thought of each of them, this “being” transmitted the answer immediately in an unspecified way, telepathically and with images. Through this method, the couple found out that this entity was called Nrax, or at least that was what they understood when he made himself known.
He also let them know that he was brought to our planet when the Pangea still existed and continents began to separate. The reason for this was that, during that period, seismic activity was continuous and more intense than at present. That allowed absorbing the energy caused by quakes through the triboluminescence phenomenon. During that initial period, he could grow up and become powerful to dissociate himself in other beings, since he himself was a dissociation of the entity that brought him. That is the way in which his species reproduces. They look for intense initial seismic-activity planets and they stayed in places where earthquakes kept their regularity and, possibly, their intensity too.
That strange being called Nrax would remain until the planet completely stops its telluric activity or it would disappear through some future catastrophe. So, that would be the moment when he himself would set off —as a spark ejected towards the space—, to do the same as his predecessor; to leave a dissociation of him in each of the planets that he could find with appropriate characteristics in order to go on with the process.
The Tollozis were moved by such revelation. Even so, Nrax told them that at that moment, he decided to erase from his memory everything he had let them know about him, since their species must not interact -for the benefit of both. The reason was that human race persists in wrong ideas without measuring consequences, and it would be needed at least a millennium until humans manage to reach maturity of conscious.
Nevertheless, to help humans not to destroy themselves and thrive as a race, he would implant to the Tollozis certain methods and knowledge so that the civilizing process spreads speedily and successfully...
Then, little by little, the cave became dark, cold returned and the couple came to their senses without remembering absolutely a thing about that luminous being. Blindly, they could go out, taking as reference dim lights of dawn that showed up timidly towards the inside of the cave...
Far away, they saw the road and people moving in vehicles to assist the wounded and helpless that the quake had left. The Tollozis stepped up the pace and signalled frequently and forcefully attracting someone`s attention to stop. Luckily, a pickup truck going towards Camegasta and carrying people in the rear, braked.
—Get on! — the driver said —There is still space at the back.
—Thank you very much! —Mr. Tollozi answered.
When they got into the car, there were four people, two of them severely injured.
—Hi — Mr. Tollozi said.
—Hello — one of them barely answered.
The Tollozis saw that they were not in good mood. There was a woman - she looked very worried- and with her little son of about eight years on her lap, since he was unconscious after a piece of masonry banged his head. There was also a youngster in real pain due to an open fracture in his left femur. The Tollozis were really shaken when seeing this situation.
However, something happened... Inexplicably, the Tollozis began to experience a kind of mental connection between them, visualizing the unconscious boy and the injured youngster. It was something that they did without any previous preparation and without any idea of the origin of this knowledge but...unbelievable, the boy started to awake recognizing his mother, who was extremely happy for this beautiful miracle.
On the other hand, the youngster showed -under the astonished gaze of those present and above all of himself, the inexplicably bone adjustment and cure of the complex injury that
was giving him a bad time. The Tollozis looked at one another without being able to give a reason to this extraordinary event.
Even so, those present did not connect the miracle that occurred with the couple who did not say anything. They preferred mutual understanding, going unnoticed, and having people attribute the miracle to something more omnipotent.
When they arrive to Camegasta, the Tollozis humbly expressed their gratitude —among laughers and the festive atmosphere lived by those cured people, together with their families and friends that went to welcome them.
While the couple was going towards their house, they realized the “power” that they had and, with the passage of time, they discovered that they got that “power” being together –never separated. Fortunately, they love and get on really well.
Due to that reason, they decided to visit hospitals, clinics and all kind of places with sick and injured people. Recoveries were immediately and this filled them with more joy. They also noticed that their gift had the particularity of changing difficult behaviours of some people. So, it encouraged them to go over prisons, houses of people with addiction problems and with unstable emotional conditions.
In spite of the discreet couple that they showed to be, inhabitants of Camegasta began to suspect them because they were always present when miraculous and inexplicably cures happened. So as to prevent from being discovered, the Tollozis decided to leave Camegasta and to continue with their miracles in some other towns...some other cities. They never knew how they got that gift, or what happened the night of the earthquake, or what happened in the cave from where they set off. That incident occurred fifteen years ago and the Tollozis remain the same -time does not go by to them. What is true is that they cured and got Camegasta better following an impulse, the same that would take them to accomplish a very important mission...saving and improving humanity.

—Me parece genial —aceptó Leo—. ¡Vamos!
Mientras investigaba, comenzó a percibir algo extraño.
— ¡No, no, no…!
